Saudi Arabia: Indian, Pakistani gang of thieves arrested

Abu Dhabi: Saudi police have arrested a gang of 12 expatriates of Indian and Pakistani origin for allegedly committing 48 thefts, assistant media spokesman for the Riyadh Police, Major Khaled Al Kreidis, said.

The accused were allegedly involved in 48 thefts of batteries, copper cutters and electrical equipment from operating rooms of telecommunications company towers and optical guide boards in the neighbourhoods of Al Nadhim, Al Naseem and Al Qayrawan), amounting to 864,000 riyals.

Police said the men used to store the loot in a warehouse in Al Remal area, east of Riyadh. Police raided the warehouse and part of the loot in addition to 14,000 riyals were recovered.

The accused were referred to the Public Prosecution, pending trail, police said.
