COVID-19 cases in GCC: 9 die in Saudi Arabia

Infections continue to fall while recoveries continue to rise

Dubai: The fatality tally in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar has risen to 9,134, on Monday.

Oman

The Sultanate today confirmed the detection of 264 new coronavirus cases and one fatality, bringing the country’s total infections to 127,931 and death toll to 1,489. Meanwhile, 171 patients have fully recovered, pushing total recoveries to 119,745, according to the latest update by the Ministry of Health.

The ministry urged everyone to adhere to social distancing protocols and precautionary measures in place to stem the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kuwait

Kuwait today reported 230 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 148,209. One fatality was reported over the past 24 hours, raising total deaths to 922, the Ministry of Health said in its latest update.

An additional 216 patients have fully recovered, pushing total recoveries to 144,142.

The active cases have now touched 3,145, including 55 critical cases under intensive care.

Bahrain

Bahrain today reported 220 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases in the Kingdom to 90,282.

Out of the new cases, 131 are expatriate workers, 75 people infected with the virus after contacting active cases, and 14 are travel related. No new deaths were reported over the past 24 hours, keeping fatality tally at 349.

There were 153 fresh recoveries, increasing total recoveries to 88,331. The active cases have now touched 1,602, including 1,590 that are stable, while there are 32 cases still receiving treatment and 12 are critical under intensive care.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed 168 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 361,178.

The ministry also reported nine more virus-related deaths over the past 24 hours, marking the lowest single-day fatalities in several months following the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom. This takes total deaths 6,131.

A further 211 new recoveries were registered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people recovered from the deadly virus to 352,089, with the recovery rate rising to 97.48 per cent.

With the significant fall in new infections, the active cases in the Kingdom also dropped to 2,958, out of which 410 were critical cases.

Qatar

The Ministry of Public Health today recorded 158 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total infections in Qatar to 142,159.

No new fatalities were reported over the past 24 hours, keeping fatality tally at 243.

According to the ministry’s latest update, a further 203 patients have fully recovered, pushing the total number of people recovered from the virus across the country to 139,927. Active cases have sharply declined to 1,989, including 212 that are stable under treatment, and 24 are critical under intensive care.
