Cairo: An explosion, resulting from a gas leak in a restaurant in Saudi Arabia, has killed one person and injured seven others, the civil defence service said.

The civil defence said its teams had dealt with the accident that occurred in a restaurant in the city of Al Khubar in the Saudi eastern region. Six of the injured were hospitalised, it added without giving details.

The blast totally destroyed the place, said an eyewitness.

“Two among the injured are in critical condition,” the witness told Saudi newspaper Al Youm.

The number of the injured later rose to nine, according to the paper.
