UAE slams Qatar’s opportunistic policies

Arab quartet broke off diplomatic ties with Doha nearly two years ago

Dubai: Qatar’s “opportunist” policies have isolated it in the Arab region and strained its relations, Emirati Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said on Sunday.

“Doha’s opportunist policies have virtually pushed it out of the Arab system,” the official said in a tweet.

He added that Qatar is finding it hard to cling on to its diminished Arab ties.

“It is a natural outcome for the one who bet on chaos and short-sighted options, and did not deal in a transparent and sincere way,” Gargash said.

In June 2017, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic and economic links with Qatar, accusing it of supporting extremist and terrorist groups.

Doha has rejected demands set by the quartet to end the boycott, including the handover of wanted militants staying in Qatar.

Earlier this year, Gargash ruled out an imminent end to the dispute.
