Thundershowers and heavy winds to hit Oman tomorrow

Muscat: The National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre of Civil Aviation Authority Oman issued a circular indicating that a tropical depression has developed in the south west Arabian Sea. With estimated surface wind speeds of up to 33 knots, the depression is headed westwards to the Horn of Africa and Gulf of Eden.

Cloud advection (movement of clouds between variable temperature zones due to ocean currents) over Oman’s Dhofar (main cities, Salalah, Mirbat, Taqah and Thumrait) and Wusta regions (main cities Duqm, Haima, Mahout, Al Jazer) is expected to start from tomorrow November 23. Isolated rains, thundershowers and winds are expected to accompany the inclement weather.

Sea condition along the coast of Dhofar and Wusta would be moderate to rough with waves rising to a height of two to three metres.

CAA has warned all to take precaution during the rains while crossing wadis, and to check visibility level of sea before sailing. People are also urged to check the updated warnings issued by CAA on this from time to time.
