Cairo: Oman’s Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq has offered condolences over the death of football legend Diego Maradona, the official Omani news agency ONA reported Friday.

The Omani sultan sent a cable of condolences to President Alberto Fernandez of Argentina on the demise of the Argentinean football star, ONA added without further details.

Maradona died Wednesday aged 60, after suffering a heart attack, triggering an outpouring of grief across the world.

Maradona captained Argentina to the 1986 World Cup win. He earned worldwide renown and generated massive following, becoming one of the greatest footballers the globe has ever known.
