Oman reports record 33 daily COVID-19 deaths

2,126 new cases registered, bringing infection tally to 238,566; death toll rises to 2,565

Dubai: Oman on Tuesday registered 33 COVID-19 deaths, the highest daily reported fatalities since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ministry of Health announced the detection of 2,126 new coronavirus cases amid a rise in the daily reported infections in the Sultanate.

This brings total infections to 238,566 while the death toll has now touched 2,565, and the overall recoveries have climbed to 212,064.

The supreme committee tasked with tackling the pandemic has recently intensified efforts to monitor the spread of the Indian, UK and South African variants in the backdrop of increasing infections in the country.

Oman also banned entry of travellers from India, UK, Sudan, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, as part of efforts to stem the spread of the contagion.
