Oman region shakes off flooding aftermath

Cairo: Life is gradually returning to normal in Oman's Dhofar region as different state bodies are working to repair the damage wrought by a tropical depression that hit the governorate last week. The tropical depression, which has now subsided, unleashed floods and heavy rains that disrupted the traffic on roads and caused power outages as well as cuts in water supplies in several parts of the region.

The water network in Salalah, the capital city of Dhofar, has been completely reoperated while a main supply line has been repaired in the coastal city of Mirbat, the Omani news agency ONA reported.

The Ministry of Defence's Engineering Services have repaired a road linking Mirbat and the province of Sadah and reopened routes in residential communities located amid wadis in the area of Jaoufaa, ONA added. The Engineering Services have also provided tanks of drinking water to mitigate the impact of cuts in water supplies in Sadah.

Civil and security agencies are, meanwhile, working to bring services back to normal in Thumrait, the province's Governor Muslim Bin Ahmad Al Hadari told ONA.

He added that some roads damaged by the tropical depression have been repaired. Power has been restored to some parts of the province, according to the official.

"Efforts are being made by civil bodies, the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Oman Police and the private sector to restore services to normalcy," he added.
