Muscat: Oman is planning to open a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination centre in Muscat, reliable sources indicated.

The current phase of immunisation campaign, touted as the largest, will see up to 70 per cent of the country’s population getting their shots by this year end.

New vaccination centres will also be opened to ensure the mass vaccination campaign surges through seamlessly. Sultanate’s premier events venue Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre is also marked as one of the centres for the vaccination drive.

The drive-through centre will be opened at the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) premises. “Work is underway to complete the technical aspects related to the vaccination service. We are working closely with the Ministry of Health in this regard,” an official at OAA was quoted as saying.

According to the official, it takes a maximum of 20 minutes to complete the entire vaccination process, without the person having to exit their cars. The start date of this service will be announced after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals.

The OAA is located close to the old airport and is a sprawling ground that has hosted not just motor-sporting events but also iconic music shows and film shows. Akon, Shah Rukh Khan and Boney M are some of the legends who performed in this venue in pre-COVID days.
