COVID-19: Oman reports record 14 deaths

Latest cases take infections to 59,568, fatalities to 273

Cairo: Oman registered 1,389 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, a day after it reported its highest single-day infections of 2,164 since the virus was detected in the country last February.

The latest cases bring Oman's infections to 59,568 cases, the Omani news agency ONA reported, citing the Health Ministry.

The newly diagnosed cases include 1,050 Omanis and 339 foreign residents, the ministry said.

The ministry also announced 14 more deaths from COVID-19, the country's highest daily toll so far, bringing its total such fatalities to 273.

The country's overall recoveries from the disease have increased by 730, to reach a total of 37,987, the ministry said.

In recent weeks, Oman has seen a spike in virus infections. A supreme committee in charge of tackling COVID-19 last week vowed tougher penalties against violators of precautions.
