COVID-19: Oman records 636 new cases, total at 9,009

Fatality tally rises to 40 with 2 more deaths due to the coronavirus

Cairo: Oman's Health Ministry Thursday confirmed 636 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking to 9,009 the country's overall infections, the Omani news agency ONA reported.

The newly diagnosed cases include 345 Omanis and 291 foreigners, the ministry said without giving a breakdown of foreign patients’ nationalities.

The ministry also announced two deaths from COVID-19, raising the country's total such fatalities to 40.

The latest deaths were a 58-year-old foreign resident and a 51-year-old Omani woman.

The total recoveries from the disease in Oman have reached 2,177, the ministry said.

Oman has this week eased some restrictions earlier imposed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

A lockdown, imposed on the province of Muscat on April 10, will be lifted on Friday. Public workers will be allowed gradually to return to work starting from Sunday.
