COVID-19: Oman monitoring spread of India, UK variants
COVID-19 infections have been on the rise in Sultanate
Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Health said it is monitoring the spread of the Indian, UK, and South African variant of the coronavirus in the wake of rising new infections in Oman. The number of COVID-19 infections have been on the rise. Oman has also banned travellers from certain countries including India, UK, Sudan, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.
Oman is currently undertaking a massive vaccination drive that has resulted in more than 435,000 people getting the jab in the Sultanate as of June 12, according to information released by the Ministry of Health. In a statement, the MOH said 12 per cent of the population has received COVID-19 vaccine.
The vaccines that are being administered in Oman are Pfizer, AstraZeneca, which is available easily in all private clinics, which have started giving the jabs on payment for RO 16 for two doses, as well as Sputnik, which is being administered free to all health care workers in designated private clinics. To ramp up the vaccination drive, a drive-through vaccination facility has also been set up at the Oman Automobile Association premises, where currently the second jab campaign is going on.
