Muscat: An official from Oman’s Ministry of Health condemned “news” circulating on social media about the first case of new strain of coronavirus found in Dhofar Governorate.

He said it was fake news and requested people not to pay it any heed. Oman has been diligently sharing daily updates on COVID-19 cases in the country, and the Tarassud app, hailed by WHO as one of the most powerful technological solutions deployed in the Middle East, gives users up to date information on the virus and the related history in Oman. The vaccination drive is going on unabated in batches.

The Supreme Committee dealing with COVID-19 control in Oman has been consistently monitoring the situation, taking suitable action from time to time to keep the spread at bay.

The recent closure of land borders in this context to effectively control the spread is noteworthy. Today, the Civil Aviation Authority announced that visitors to the country have to spend no less than seven days in Oman with a mandatory PCR test taken on the eighth day, with a negative result, to be out of quarantine.
