35 babies born to mothers above 50 in Oman

In total, 86,819 babies were born in Sultanate last year

Dubai: Women above the age of 50 gave birth to 35 babies in Oman last year, figures released by the government show.

The National Centre for Statistics and Information in its Statistical Yearbook for 2020, reported that 26 babies were born to Omani mothers aged 50 and above; 12 of these were girls, while the other 14 were boys.

Expatriate mothers above that age gave birth to nine babies. One of the newborns was a girl, the other eight were boys.

In total, 86,819 babies were born in Oman last year; 42,458 of them were girls, while 44,361 were boys. Only 6,359 babies (3,034 girls and 3,325 boys) were born to expatriate parents, while the bulk of newborns – 80,460 babies (39,424 girls and 41,036 boys) were born into Omani families.
