Kuwait sets record for water production and consumption

Exceeds the barrier of half a billion gallons for the first time in its history

Abu Dhabi: Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water has set a record for water production and consumption, as its production exceeded the barrier of half a billion gallons for the first time in its history, while consumption reached 494 million gallons imperial, Kuwaiti media reported.

“The total production of desalination units reached 501.857 million gallons, while the consumption reached 494 million gallons and the strategic stock reached 3.8 billion gallons,” well-informed sources in the ministry told Al Rai newspaper.

According to official figures, the average annual per capita consumption in Kuwait is one of the highest in the world, growing from 9,252 imperial gallons in 1970 to 35,744 in 2016. The total consumption rate in 2016 was 157.6bn imperial gallons.
