Abu Dhabi: Coast guard patrols in Kuwait have foiled an attempt to smuggle 15kg of hashish, estimated to have a street value of KD50,000 ($162,518) and three kilograms of Shabu methamphetamine, estimated to have a street value of KD100,000 ($325,000) via the sea, police said.

The operation was launched after the Maritime Operations Centre grew suspicious about a boat sailing with a man on board.

A chase ensued and the man tried to escape by heading for shallow waters.

However, the patrol servicemen managed to stop it, the police said.

The man on board the boat was arrested and the drugs along with two pistols were seized. He allegedly admitted that had had smuggled in and dumped narcotics offshore and that he provided his accomplices with coordinates of the dumping site.
