Cairo: Bahrain’s Major Criminal Court has sentenced three fugitives in Iran to life in prison after convicting them of recruiting others inside the kingdom for carrying out terror attacks.

The court also sentenced 36 other defendants in the same case to jail terms ranging from three months to 10 years, Bahraini newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej reported.

The case involved a total of 39 defendants, including 19 fugitives mostly in Iran.

Investigations revealed that the defendants had planned to blow up a Bahraini pipeline and a police patrol. A group of them were tasked by the main defendants in Iran to monitor vital sites in Bahrain, including banks, with the aim of attacking them. Others were assigned filming terror attacks and propagating them online.

In 2018, Bahraini security forces foiled an attempt to blow up an oil pipeline after two of the defendants in the group had planted an explosive device near the facility and planned a remote-controlled detonation.
