King Salman arrives in Bahrain

Talks with King Hamad cover latest regional, international developments

Manama: Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz arrived in Bahrain on a one-day visit to the island kingdom.

King Salman was welcomed by King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa on the King Fahad Causeway, the 25km long terrestrial link between the two countries.

The causeway, named after King Salman’s brother who ruled from 1982 to 2005, has been used by millions of people and vehicles since it was opened in November 1986.

Bahrain Television beamed live the welcoming ceremony and the arrival of the two monarchs to Rawdha Palace for talks.

King Salman arrived from the Eastern Province where he made a visit after taking part in the 30th Arab League summit held on Sunday in Tunisia.

The Saudi monarch, the chair of the outgoing Arab summit, handed over the rotating presidency to Tunisian President Beji Qaid Al Sebsi.

The king’s visit to the eastern Province is the latest in a series of visits to the various regions of the country, where he launched massive projects and interacted with residents.

On Monday, he ordered the release of prisoners held in the Eastern Province on financial charges.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), inmates whose cases are non-criminal and with debts of less than SR1 million will be set free and their dues fully paid.

On Tuesday, King Salman chaired the weekly cabinet session in Khobar, a coastal city in the Eastern Province.
