Bahrain sets up a new strategic security agency

Cairo: Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa has decreed the establishment of a new security body, officially named the Strategic Security Agency.

The new body is affiliated with Bahrain’s Supreme Defence Council, which according to the royal decree, will define its powers and structure, the state news agency BNA reported.

King Hamad also issued a royal decree, naming Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa as the chief of the newly created Strategic Security Agency, BNA added.

The Bahraini monarch also ordered appointing National Security Advisor Maj.Gen. Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa as the secretary-general of the Supreme Defence Council.

According to another royal order, Dr Abdullah Bin Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al Khalifa has been named the deputy secretary-general of the Supreme Defence Council, in addition to his current post.

The Supreme Defence Council is the highest defence authority in Bahrain, responsible for taking high-level decisions related to security issues in the Gulf island kingdom. Headed by the king, the council comprises 14 members.
