Bahrain: Expats in deportation facility infected with COVID-19

Cairo: Bahrain authorities have said that an undisclosed number of female expatriates in custody in connection with violating residency rules have been infected with the novel coronavirus.

The infections have been detected in a deportation centre, according to Bahraini media.

The country’s Nationality, Passports and Residency Affairs Directorate said that medical steps have been taken to treat the infected people along with boosting precautionary measures in the site.

No figures are available yet on the number of patients or their nationalities.

The Bahraini Interior Minister has ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the incident, Al Bilad newspaper reported.

The panel will check how much the precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 have been observed in the facility.

Bahrain so far has registered a tally of 85,886 coronavirus cases and 339 related fatalities.
