Dubai: Social media users are learning a thing or two about “romance” from the former Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, after a picture of him carrying his wife went viral.

On September 13, Tobgay (@tsheringtobgay) took to twitter and uploaded a picture of him carrying his wife with the caption: “Not as dashing as Sir Walter Raleigh, but a man’s [got to] do what a man’s [got to] do to keep his lady’s feet clean.”

His post was liked more than 5,000 times and received 1,000 retweets.

The reference in the caption goes back to the story of writer, Sir Walter Raleigh, who apparently laid his cloak over a mud puddle to keep England’s Queen Elizabeth’s feet from getting dirty. While the authenticity of this historical story is often debated, the former Prime Minister took inspiration from the fabled tale and carried his wife through what looked like muddy terrain, and sent users into a frenzy.

People could not stop gushing over Tobgay’s gesture.

Tweep @IshitaRawat5 posted: “This reminds me of Monika and Chandler. Couple goals.”

Whie tweep @arvindsingh_dev said: “It is more dashing than Raleigh, I tell you.”

And @abhinavg85 said: “Very much appreciated. Thank you for sharing, you need not to compare with anyone sir, You did what was best for your lady.”

Users praised Tobgay for this gesture and called it an act of “true love”.
