Dubai: Pakistani film-lovers were in for a treat on Friday evening as the trailer of the much awaited Punjabi film – The Legend of Maula Jatt – was released.

The cinematography and casting were hailed as ground-breaking in Pakistani cinema as many social media users called the film’s first look  a cross between Game of Thrones and Gladiator. In fact, soon after Maula Jatt began to trend on Twitter in Pakistan, the next trend was Game of Thrones, because of how many social media users compared the upcoming movie to the hit television show.

Tweep @omar_quraishi wrote: “Didn’t know they could make films like this in Pakistan -- see for yourself.”

Another twitter user @IyanAmjad added: “Standing ovation for the whole team of Maula Jatt. #TheLegendofMaulaJatt will definitely take Pakistani cinema to another level. Very impressive first look trailer. Intense and powerful. I’m totally blown away.”

According to Pakistani media reports, this would be the most expensive production in the country but contrary to  popular belief this is not a remake of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt.

Even Indian film maker Anurag Kashyap couldn’t help but share the trailer.

Indian film lovers also lamented that they would not be able to enjoy the film because of political tensions between the two country.

@AksShivam tweeted: “It’s really sad that we have to tolerate movies Like #Zero and couldn’t even watch something different Like #MaulaJatt. Just because it’s a Pakistani movie, we won’t be seeing it. When our movies can release there, then why can’t theirs? #Fawadkhan #Mahirakhan #IndoPak”

Pakistan is all set to release its most ambitious film #MaulaJatt on #Eid2019 *in their country* and overseas ...
