UAE Embassy staffers among first in Pakistan to receive COVID-19 vaccine
Programme is based on ‘UAE Embassy’s commitment towards social responsibility’
Islamabad: The employees of the UAE embassy in Pakistan are among the first ones to get the coronavirus jab in the country.
The UAE Embassy organised a vaccination program to immunize all the employees and cadres of the embassy in Islamabad and its representative offices in the country. Pictures of the UAE Ambassador and the embassy staff getting a shot in the arm were also shared on Twitter.
Dozens of staffers were vaccinated during the two-day (January 19-20) vaccination programme after the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) authorised the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine in Pakistan.
The vaccination programme is based on the “UAE Embassy’s commitment towards social responsibility and to effectively contribute in efforts aimed at the safety of the society and preserving the health of its communities” said Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al Zaabi, the UAE Ambassador.
UAE was the first country to roll out the Chinese Sinopharm in late December 2020 after the vaccine showed 86 per cent efficacy. More than 2 million people in the United Arab Emirates have already received the Sinopharm vaccine, which is available for free to all citizens and residents along with Pfizer-BioNTech and other vaccines. UAE aims to inoculate at least 50 per cent of the people in the country by the first quarter of the year.
