ABBOTTABAD: A teenage girl died of cardiac arrest in Narrian Abbottabad on Tuesday night due to the fear caused by the magnitude 6.8 earthquake.

The tremors spread panic among residents in Abbottabad where people came out of their houses due to fear.

Kulsoom Waheed alias Soumi, daughter of a policeman Waheed who was killed in a militant attack, passed out after the quake. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors confirmed her death due to heart failure caused by fear.

In another incident, a man and woman were taken to the District headquarters hospital in Abbottabad unconscious due to fear from Khola Kehal Abbottabad.

In Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital, residents also spoke of their fears. “I kept reciting verses from Quran and praying for the safety of all,” said Zar Bibi, a housewife in Peshawar.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he asked disaster management officials to remain vigilant.

The region is prone to violent seismic upheavals. A magnitude 7.6 quake in 2005 killed thousands of people in Pakistan.
