Pakistan: Hindu couple in rural Punjab brutally attacked, reason unclear

Blood running down Gulab’s face and his wife equally injured and her clothes torn, screamed and begged for help after being attacked in Pakistan allegedly because they come from a Hindu background. The shocking video has gone viral online.

The incident reportedly occurred in the rural areas of Rahim Yar Khan, in the province of Punjab. The man was identified as 'Gulab' and the name of his wife in unclear.

A May 11 tweet posted by a Twitter account titled ‘Voice of Pakistan Minority', @voice_minority, with graphic pictures of the duo severely injured and after the alleged attack have garnered attention online. The caption reads: “Once again attack on #Hindu community, Gulab and his wife were attacked by neighbourhood goons in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab. His wife was sexually assaulted in front of public. Shame on you people who are torturing minorities in #Pakistan.”

Another account on Twitter, @RiteshS25429000, posted the clip with the caption: “This Hindu family, Gulab and his wife were attacked and his wife raped. This happened at Chak No. 121, Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. They are forcing them to leave their home because they are Hindus. @ImranKhanPTI Media why are you silent?”

According to online posts, the attackers wanted the couple to leave the area. There are also tweets stating that the incident occurred due to a dispute over land.

Tweeting at Federal Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari, user @desmukh wrote: “Local feudal in Rahim Yar Khan reportedly beat up a Hindu farmer in order to forcefully occupy his land in a largely Hindu neighbourhood. @ShireenMazari1”

No official reports from the police or Pakistani media have emerged so far.
