Dubai: Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan is fighting power theft in the country. He took to social media to share the recent contributions of the power sector, and online users praised him and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party for their dedication.
On his official twitter account @ImranKhanPTI, posted a picture with the caption: “I want to congratulate the Power Minister and his Ministry. One of the reasons for expensive electricity and load shedding is power theft.”
The picture was a screenshot of a Whatsapp chat, wherein the current achievements of the Power Ministry were listed.
According to the picture, around 8,000 First Information Reports (FIR) were registered against power thieves in Punjab. In addition to that, line losses, or energy wastage resulting from transmission of energy across power lines, was reduced by 1.5 per cent, saving up to 2 billion rupees.
His post was liked more than 7.8 thousand received 2.2 thousand retweets.
People praised Khan’s party and wished him well for his future goals.

@RKWazir4 replied to Khan’s tweet and said: “…great efficiency shown by Power Division…Identify all those consumers who are involved in electricity theft and… ask them to pay immediately. If they do not, arrest them and prosecute them. Recovery would improve and the losses will reduce.”
And @hamidorakzai posted: “There are so many villages…who steal power mercilessly, three to four air conditioners in one home alone…while only few household pay regular bills but they suffer [because of others].”
Many people praised Khan for his accountability and compared previous Prime Ministers and their performances. The PTI has completed 100 days in power and have made contributions against corruption, money laundering and more.
According to The Nation, an English language daily newspaper in Lahore, Khan chaired a meeting on Friday to discuss issues pertaining to the power sector.
The report stated: “Power Division secretary informed the prime minister that power division in coordination with the provincial task-forces is actively carrying forward the campaign against power theft/pilferage in all the provinces.”
Secretary Power Irfan Ali informed that a gang was recently busted for “facilitating power pilferage by tampering electricity meters through a software.”
