Pakistan gives out 25 million doses, country’s toll due to COVID-19 reaches 23,000
Islamabad: Pakistan on Sunday reported more than 25 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered across the country since the launch of the vaccination drive earlier this year while 20 million people have been vaccinated so far.
Asad Umar, Chairman of the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) and Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiative in a tweet on Sunday claimed that by the end of August, 40 per cent of Pakistan’s eligible population would be vaccinated.
According to the NCOC, in the last 24 hours alone 517,255 doses were administered across the country while in total, 25,432,173 doses have been administered.
Supreme Court judge Isa, wife test positive
Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and his wife Serena Isa have tested positive for COVID-19.
Their reports came only a day after the country crossed the grim milestone of 1 million cases of COVID-19.
According to a press release issued by the apex court’s Deputy Registrar, the COVID-19 test results of Justice Isa and his wife were issued by the National Institute of Health and according to them, they have been tested positive.
“They are undergoing treatment and currently quarantined at home,” the statement further adds.
In November last year, Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth died at the age of 59 only days after contracting the coronavirus.
Maritime minister gets infected for second time
Earlier, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali, Haider Zaidi announced on twitter he had tested positive for COVID-19 once again.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have tested positive yet again and I am quarantining myself,” Zaidi wrote in a tweet. “Please wear a mask and take care of yourselves,” he urged the people to take precautions.
COVID-19 toll crosses 23,000, active cases 55,000
Pakistan’s toll due to COVID-19 crossed 23,000 on Sunday as the country reported 45 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
This is the highest number of deaths during a day since July 15 when 47 deaths were reported, according to the NCOC.
The country’s COVID-19 confirmed cases also jumped to 1004,694 after 2,819 new cases were added to the list. The NCOC portal further says that the number of active cases had also climbed from 54,122 on Saturday to 55,720 on Sunday. The positivity rate too remained above 6 per cent, it further revealed.
