Dubai: An eleven-year-old Pakistani girl has been stoned to death in a remote village of Pakistan’s Singh province in yet another case of "honour killing".

Police arrested the parents of the girl on Saturday after the news of girl’s murder spread on social media.

Two other suspects have also been arrested while the police have launched investigation in to the gory incident.

What is Karo-Kari

Honour killing or Karo-Kari is a type of premeditated killing, which originated in rural and tribal areas of Sindh, Pakistan. The homicidal acts are primarily committed against women who are thought to have brought dishonour to their families by engaging in illicit pre-marital or extra-marital relations. In order to restore this honour, a male family member must kill the female in question.

According to police, the incident happened on November 21 in the Kirthar mountain range of Sindh’s Dadu district, which borders the Balochistan province.

Following information that a girl had been stoned to death, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dadu Dr Farrukh Raza directed police to take immediate action.

“We are further verifying facts but we have arrested the deceased girl’s parents and an Imam who had led the funeral prayer, as well as another man who had facilitated her burial,” said SSP Raza.

Quoting the girl’s parents, the SSP said that the girl had died “accidentally due to land sliding on the mountain”, reported The News.

Conspiracy

According to the FIR, the girl’s father, his relative, and four others had hatched a conspiracy for the murder of the girl and killed her by stone pelting”. “We need to verify the facts because there are various claims as to the nature of her death, including stoning carried out by unidentified persons,” said SSP Raza.

DIG Naeem Shaikh claimed that an application would be filed in the court to seek remand of the suspects as well as permission to exhume the girl’s body. “After exhumation, an autopsy will be conducted which will determine the cause of her death,” said DIG Shaikh.
