Kerala chef brothers killed in road mishap
Police trying to identify the vehicle that hit the bike through cameras
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s high incidence of road accidents claimed the lives of two brothers on Thursday, both well-known chefs.
The deceased — Ajesh Dasan, 37 and Aneesh Dasan, 35 — were sons of Velimparambil Dasan, a native of Cherthala in Alappuzha district.
Ajesh was working with a hotel in Kochi, and Aneesh was employed with a hotel in Kozhikode. On the day of the mishap, Aneesh travelled from Kozhikode to Kochi and was headed home to Cherthala on Ajesh’s bike when an unidentified vehicle hit the bike and ran over the brothers.
The rear wheel of the vehicle that hit them went over their bodies, and the vehicle carried on without stopping. The mishap occurred at Pattanakkad near the Bishop Moor School on the national highway.
Travellers who passed by shortly after the incident saw the two brothers lying on the road in a serious condition and informed the police.
Both were rushed to hospital, but Aneesh is believed to have lost his life on the accident spot, and Ajesh died on the way to hospital.
Police are trying to identify the vehicle that hit the brothers’ bike through footage from cameras in the vicinity of the accident spot.
Ajesh leaves behind his wife and a daughter, and Aneesh is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Another youth lost his life in the state on Thursday after being involved in a bike accident last Sunday.
Jain Joseph, 26 from Idukki district met with an accident at Thiruvallam near Thiruvananthapuram early on Sunday while returning on his bike after dropping a friend home.
Kerala witnesses roughly 4,000 road deaths every year. In the first eight months of last year, 2,632 people lost their lives in a whopping 25,628 road accidents.
According to a study by the National Transportation Planning and Research Center, though only 10-15 per cent of vehicles travel at night, they cause almost 25 per cent of accidents. Well-known Kerala musician Bala Bhaskar and his young daughter were killed in a road mishap a few months ago in a mishap in the early hours.
