India: Husband brutally beats and strangles wife for not getting pregnant
A man in India brutally beat and strangled his wife with a scarf for not getting pregnant just days before their wedding anniversary.
The incident occurred in Maloya Colony, Chandigarh, according to an international news website.
Officers identified the victim as 28-year-old Sheetal while her husband as Anoop Singh. He was arrested and a case was registered.
According to reports, on the day of the murder, the couple got into a fight about Sheetal not giving birth to a child.
Singh locked the door before using a scarf to strangle his wife. One of the neighbours heard screams coming from the house and alerted Sheetal’s family members.
Sheetal’s family found her lying unconscious on the floor and rushed her to the hospital, however, doctors declared her dead. They also alerted the police.
The unemployed husband fled the scene after strangling her.
Police received reports of an assault at a house. After arriving at the hospital, they registered a case against Singh.
The investigation revealed that the couple frequently argued over the fact that she had not become pregnant. Prior to the murder, Singh brutally beat his wife, leaving her with facial injuries including several broken teeth.
The couple had been married for three years and their wedding anniversary was due to take place on November 14.
After Singh was arrested, he denied any responsibility of the murder.
Sheetal’s parents spoke to police who revealed that her husband regularly harassed her for not getting pregnant.
Singh remains in custody. However, locals have stated that a thorough investigation should be conducted in order to identify everyone that was involved in the murder.
Singh’s family has fled.
