India: Case against Madhya Pradesh journalist for allegedly raping five women
The case was registered at Ratibad police station in Bhopal
A case has been registered against an elderly journalist and his female associate in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, regarding the alleged rape of five women.
Reportedly, the police have taken the accused woman into custody, whereas the journalist has absconded.
Talking to a local news source, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bhopal (South) Sai Krishna Thota said: "The police received information that five women were roaming around in Ratibad area in a drunken state in the wee hours of Sunday. A case has been filed against 68-year-old journalist Pyare Miya, and his associate Sweeti Vishwakarma under relevant sections of the IPC, including 376 (rape), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for alleged sexual exploitation of four girls and a woman."
Later, upon questioning, the women confessed that the accused had invited them to a birthday celebration. The party started in the evening of Saturday and continued through to Sunday, in an apartment. One of those women informed the police that the accuse raped her along with other women.
Ratibad police station in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh state has filed the case, and it will transfer to the Shahpura police station under whose jurisdiction the crime fell.
