India: 55-year-old man held for raping a cow in Bhopal, Indian Twitter users are angry

Dubai: A 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a cow, in the Indian city of Bhopal. News reports about the horrifying incident, are being shared by Twitter users in India, with many expressing anger at the animal brutality.

According to the police, the incident took place on July 4, at around 4am when the accused went to a dairy, in Sundar Nagar, and allegedly assaulted the cow. Reportedly, The incident came to light after the dairy owner complained, and the cops examined the CCTV footage of the area.

Angry Twitter user @parassony tweeted: “Where is India going? What type of people do we have, who don't even leave an animal for rape, and what punishment should be given for raping a cow?”

As reported by the Indian news agency Asian News International (ANI), Alok Srivastava, the Station In-Charge at Bhopal’s Ashoka Garden Police, said: “On July 4, a man …, 55, entered a diary in Sundar Nagar. The dairy owner Ram Yadav caught him but later allowed him to go. The next day, Yadav checked the CCTV footage and found … doing an unnatural act (sex) with the cow.

“Yadav filed a complaint at the police station, and the accused has been booked under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. He has been arrested.”

Section 377 of the IPC for unnatural offences states: “Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or for a term which may extend up to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.”

Saying this was a new low for human beings, tweep @I_am_Pratibha posted: “Whenever I think humanity won't stoop lower than this, boom… I see another such news!”

Tweep @ruchitweets also asked: “What has happened to humans?”

And, Facebook user Reema Tyagi posted: “Where are all those people who always blame women for wearing the wrong type of clothes? Was it the cow’s mistake this time?”
