India: 11-year-old boy steals Rs20,00,000 from bank in Haryana

An 11-year-old boy, along with an accomplice, allegedly stole Rs20,00,000 (Dh99,620) from a local bank in the Indian state of Haryana on Monday. The crime took place in Jind city branch of the Punjab National Bank.

Later the accused were identified as Manowar and Ravinder.

According to the Indian news reports, the boy walked into the bank branch and fled with bundles of cash without raising any suspicion from the staff members. The boy entered the bank located in front of the District Rural Development Agency. When the cashier left his cabin, the boy allegedly stepped inside and took away the bundles of cash kept in his bag.

Later the bank employees found a mismatch in the amount and found a discrepancy of Rs20,00,000.

On checking the CCTV footage, the police found a boy carrying the cash.

Talking to the media, Vishvajit Sinha, the bank manager, said that the boy stole four bundles of Rs5,00,000 each and fled. He added that as the bank was overcrowded on the day of the incident, the cashier forgot to lock his cabin while stepping out.

While criticising for the negligence the cashier made, the local police official Hari Om said: "The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera and it’s clear that there was a man along with the boy, and we have booked the accused under section 380 of the Indian Penal Code.”
