Delhi blast: Loud explosion near CRPF school, probe underway
New Delhi: A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), arrived on Sunday at the site of an explosion outside the CRPF school in Prashant Vihar, Rohini, in the national capital. The area was rocked by a loud explosion early in the morning.
National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were also present to assist in the investigation being conducted by the Delhi Police. A forensic team examined the site and collected samples.
According to the Delhi Police, no conclusive statement has been made yet on what caused the blast near the school, and multiple authorities, including the Special Cell, are investigating.
Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi stated that a loud explosion was reported from Prashant Vihar this morning.
"The police team quickly reached the spot, where they detected a foul smell and found broken window panes and glass within the school premises. Senior officers, along with experts from the Forensic Department, Crime Team, and Special Cell, are conducting the investigation," Tyagi said.
He added, "The cause is still being determined. It wouldn’t be appropriate to give a conclusive statement until the investigation is completed."
Sources from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) said the material used in the blast outside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in Rohini resembles a crude bomb, but full details will only be clear after the reports are received.
No injuries have been reported, but the glass windows of nearby shops were shattered, and a parked car was damaged, the police confirmed. The area has been cordoned off.
In an earlier official statement, the Delhi Police said, "At 07:47 AM today, a PCR call was received reporting a loud blast near the CRPF school in Sector 14, Rohini. The SHO and staff reached the spot and found the school wall damaged, with a foul smell in the area. The glass of nearby shops and a parked car were also damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured."
Delhi is now on high alert, and security has been heightened in markets ahead of Diwali.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi blamed the BJP-led central government for the law and order situation in the capital.
She stated that while the BJP is responsible for maintaining law and order, their track record suggests otherwise.
"The responsibility for law and order in Delhi lies with the BJP's central government. But instead of focusing on this, the BJP spends all its time obstructing the work of the elected Delhi government. This is why Delhi’s current situation resembles that of Mumbai’s underworld in the 1990s," Atishi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"Open gunfire, gangsters extorting money, and high criminal morale — the BJP lacks both the intention and capability to address this. If, by mistake, the people of Delhi hand over the Delhi government to them, they will mismanage schools, hospitals, electricity, and water, just as they have done with law and order," she added.
