Boy ends life after losing Class 8 leader polls

He was teased by schoolmates for losing to a girl

Hyderabad : In a reflection of the stress the younger generation is suffering from, a Class 8 student committed suicide after losing the class representative election to a girl student. According to the family, the boy was teased by some of his schoolmates for losing to a girl.

Thirteen 13-year-old C.Charan Kumar, a student of Krishnaveni Talent School at Ramannpet in Nalgonda district, had gone missing after returning home from school on Thursday and his body was found on a railway track near Chityal on Friday. Police suspect the depressed teenager jumped before train.

Charan’s father C.Vijay Kumar, owner of a grocery store, in his complaint told the police that the boy had contested the election to the post of class representative.

Vijay Kumar said Charan along with his brother, a student of 9th Standard in the same school, had come to his shop on Thursday before going home. When both the parents reached home, there was no sign of Charan. After waiting till midnight, they lodged a missing person complaint with the police. Nalgonda Railway Police sub inspector B Achyutam said that the body of the boy was found on the tracks near Chityal on Monday.

Body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

A case of suspicious death has been registered and police were questioning school authorities as well as other students to establish the cause.

Vijay Lakshmi, Charan’s mother, said he was sad and depressed after losing the election by six votes. “He took sweets worth Rs100 to distribute in school after coming second in the elections. He claimed he had become leader No. 2. But became heartbroken when other students told him that there was nothing called second leader,” an inconsolable Lakshmi said.
