Bihar teenager brutally raped and killed
Patna: In a bitter reminder of the December 2012 Delhi gang rape case, a teenager was killed after being allegedly gang raped in Bihar, triggering widespread outrage.
The alleged rapists cut off the victim’s breasts and doused her body with acid before fleeing the scene, apparently in a bid to destroy evidence. The incident took place at Ramnagar village in West Cahmparan district.
Reports quoting family members and police said the victim had gone out to meet nature’s call on Sunday evening when she was kidnapped, dragged inside sugar cane fields and then allegedly gang raped.
As the victim didn’t return home, family members launched a search but failed to find her. Eventually, her body was found inside a sugar cane field on Tuesday.
The rapists had gagged with a scarf before raping her. After committing the crime, they tore apart her bosom and then bathed her body and face with acid to destroy evidence, witnesses said.
Last month, the victim had gotten engaged and her wedding was scheduled to be solemnised in November this year.
“We had been busy making preparations for her wedding but see, we are carrying her body on our shoulders now,” said her father Munna Chaudhary, wailing inconsolably.
The police said they have registered a case and detained people for interrogation.
“We are investigating the case and the accused persons will be nabbed very soon,” a senior police official Rajiv Kumar said. He added the police were awaiting the autopsy report of the victim.
Rising rape cases have become a matter of grave concern in Bihar. According to an official report, more than 6,200 incidents of rape have been reported in the past five years of the ruling Nitish Kumar government. This year, as many as 605 incidents of rape have been reported until May, indicating at least four girls are being raped every day in Bihar.
Former parliamentarian Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, has announced a cash reward of Rs100,000 (Dh5,171) to anyone who kills rapists.
“If the government can punish the rapists, the society too holds the right to teach a lesson to the outlaws,” Yadav announced.
