Banda (Uttar Pradesh, India): In a peculiar turn of events, a family's attempt to drive away a cobra from their home by creating smoke from burning cow dung resulted in their own house catching fire, as confirmed by the police.

The incident unfolded in Banda district on a Sunday when the family discovered a cobra inside their residence. In a bid to expel the snake, they initiated a process of burning cow dung to generate smoke. However, this seemingly well-intentioned action led to the fire spreading rapidly and ultimately consuming their entire house.

The devastating consequence of the fire included the loss of the family's cash, jewellery, and several quintals of grain. Rajkumar, who is employed as a labourer in Delhi, shared the house with his wife and five children. The total estimated loss is in lakhs, encompassing the family's lifetime savings and possessions.

Upon receiving the alert, local law enforcement and fire brigade teams promptly arrived at the scene, successfully gaining control over the blaze. Furthermore, the Revenue Department has been notified and is presently evaluating the extent of the damage.

A police official remarked, "The family members have stated that they were attempting to smoke out a snake. Further steps are being taken in relation to this incident."
