Dubai: Beachgoers have been warned to take precautions today, Sunday, as strong winds could kick up waves up to seven feet tall.

Fresh northeasterly-northwesterly winds are forecast to reach 42 kilometres per hour anytime from 2pm today until 4am on Monday, the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) just announced.

As a result, waters in the Arabian Gulf will be rough, with waves expected to reach four to six or seven feet offshore.

A yellow alert has just been put up, warning the public who may venture along the coasts of Umm Al Quwain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ruwais and Sila.

Light rain showers also fell over Ras Al Khaimah at around 12 noon, while minimum temperatures dropped to as low as 14.7 degrees Celsius in Jais Mountain at 5:30am.

Lower temperatures and occasional rain showers are a welcome respite from the UAE’s hot, dry and humid days of summer, when the mercury rises above 40 degrees Celsius.

The lowest reading so far this month was 11.7 degrees Celsius.
