Sharjah: A 13-year-old Palestinian boy tragically lost his life after being run over by a speeding car while crossing a road in the Al Taawun area of Sharjah on Saturday afternoon, according to a police official.

Upon receiving reports of the accident, a police patrol and paramedics promptly arrived at the scene. The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his serious injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police investigations revealed that the child was crossing the road at a traffic light when the signal favoured vehicles. The child emerged from the left side in front of the crossing vehicle, resulting in the accident.

The speeding driver who wasn't paying attention caused the accident. He is in custody at Al Buhairah police station, undergoing questioning, an officer said.

Police authorities urged the drivers to prioritise the safety of pedestrians crossing roads.
