UAE school makes photography part of curriculum
Dubai: Global Indian International School (GIIS) has introduced a dedicated photography period as part of daily classes, at both its Dubai and Abu Dhabi campuses.
GIIS UAE, in association with Nikon Middle East, will make photography classes part of the curriculum but not as a graded subject. Students will gradually be given a complete understanding of the medium and the use of professional equipment. It will help them express themselves better and develop visual perception, GIIS said.
The classes will allow pupils to explore their creativity and maybe, pursue photography as a profession eventually, GIIS added.
Atul Temurnikar, GIIS co-founder, said: “GIIS’s association with Nikon ME is a great way to help children to grow with photography as a medium. Nikon has the capacity to bring in very innovative products which can enable students to do photography in a more advanced and smart way. In the first session, the majority of students went from having virtually zero experience with a DSLR to taking fantastic images in a span of less than an hour. We believe that these sort of joint labs will help students develop their creativity skills and express themselves more creatively.”
Amol Vaidya, director of Operations at GIIS, said: “We have always focused on the overall development of our students, to make them global citizens of tomorrow. Photography is known to substantially increase focus and understand the expressions of life. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn while having fun as well and to capture and understand the best expressions of life.”
