Abu Dhabi Police arrest man with 4.5 million Captagon pills
Suspect hid pills in food containers, planned to smuggle them to a neighbouring country
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a suspect for attempting to smuggle 4.5 million Captagon pills into the UAE.
The accused had stashed the prescription-only medical pills in food containers, with plans to smuggle them to a neighbouring country.
Brigadier Tahir Al Dhaheri, director of the Narcotics Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, said the suspect was apprehended following a security plan that involved tracking his movements.
Brig Al Dhaheri added that the accused had arrived in the UAE with a large number of cans supposedly containing beans. When these were examined, the cans were found empty. The accused also had 4.5 million Captagon pills in his possession, along with the tools needed to package the pills for further trafficking.
The official added that the police uses advanced technologies to apprehend drug traffickers in a bid to stem the negative social impacts of substance abuse.
