UAE hiked retail petrol rates by 1 fil per litre this month from April 2025
Dubai: With the UAE set to announce petrol and diesel prices for June 2025 in the coming days, residents who are routinely keeping an eye out for updates will track any hikes or dips in retail costs in order to determine how to budget for them.
E-Plus category petrol was available for Dh2.39 a litre, compared to Dh2.38 a litre in April, while diesel fell to Dh2.52 a litre, compared to Dh2.63 a litre the previous month. But how are prices expected to fare next month?
Since the UAE deregulated fuel prices in 2015, monthly price adjustments have aligned with global oil trends. The latest revisions are expected soon.
The UAE’s petrol and diesel prices for June are set to be announced by May 30 or May 31, and they often reflect how global oil prices have been moving in recent weeks.
Right now, Brent crude oil – the international benchmark – has climbed slightly above $65 a barrel, mainly because markets got a small boost after
US President Donald Trump postponed new tariffs on the European Union. These tariffs, originally set to kick in on June 1, are now delayed until July 9, giving both sides more time to talk trade.
But zooming out, oil prices have actually been falling since mid-January, and that’s due to a mix of reasons:
· The US and its trading partners have been locked in a tense tariff battle, which is making markets nervous and dragging down oil demand.
· At the same time, major oil producers under OPEC+ are planning to increase supply, which could leave the market with more oil than needed.
Adding to the uncertainty, the US and Iran recently restarted nuclear talks, and there's a chance a deal could be made. If that happens, it could lead to more Iranian oil entering the global market, adding even more downward pressure on prices.
According to analysts, all eyes are now on an OPEC+ meeting this Sunday, where oil-producing countries will decide whether to keep boosting supply in July. If they go ahead with another big increase, it could keep prices soft for a while.
If oil prices continue to stay low or edge lower – due to trade talks, more supply, or an Iran deal – UAE fuel prices in June could stay the same or even drop slightly.
However, if OPEC+ surprises markets with a pause in their production increase, we could see a mild rebound in prices.
So, for now, a fuel price hike in June looks unlikely, unless global oil markets suddenly turn around in the coming days.
