Tremors from an earthquake were felt across Swat and nearby regions on Saturday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Local media reports state that the quake, with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale, originated at a depth of 130 kilometers, with its epicenter in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.
While the tremors prompted brief evacuations from homes and offices as a precautionary measure, no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage have been received. Seismologists have noted that the Hindu Kush region is prone to frequent seismic activity.
This latest event follows an earlier earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 that shook several major cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to ARY News, citing the PMD.
The epicenter of that stronger quake was situated in the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan at a depth of 94 kilometers.
Similar to the later quake, no immediate reports of damage or injuries were recorded from the earlier, larger tremor.
