Australia is a land of pleasant surprises. Almost double the size of Europe, the country contains some of earth's finest sculptures. Its cities offer exquisite art, architecture, formal gardens, historical interest and all the luxuries of urban living.

In the thick of the Great Dividing Range, the Blue Mountains are a prime example of Australian bush, with gum trees and excellent bushwalking through deep gorges and up majestic peaks.

Katoomba is a major tourist centre. With its Art Nouveau and Art Deco guesthouses it is a cheerful relic of another era. Broome is the old pearling town with its distinctly Asian flavour, languorous pace, cosmopolitan atmosphere and easy-going tropical charm.

Cairns, forever resplendent in a carnival atmosphere, is an international tourist destination with its access to the outer tentacles of the Great Barrier Reef.

Australia is a delight for the lover of the outdoors. There's excellent white-water rafting down the Tully, Russell and Barron Rivers, cycling in all forms, horse riding through the bush trails, bungee jumping, ballooning over Mareeba and scuba-diving in Cairns.
