Suva, Fiji: Eight men have been convicted of conspiracy to assassinate Fiji's prime minister and sentenced to jail terms of between three and seven years.
Justice Paul Madigan on Friday described the men as greedy and thoughtless for their plan to kill armed forces chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama, who seized power in a bloodless coup in 2006.
Eight other defendants in the case have been acquitted.
