Somali pirates hijack Yemeni cargo ship

Nairobi: Somali pirates have hijacked a Yemeni ship loaded with steel in the Gulf of Aden and are demanding a $2 million ransom, officials said on Tuesday.

Yemen's official Saba news agency said the MV Adina was travelling from Mukalla port to the southern island of Socotra when it was hijacked.

The cargo ship, owned by Yemeni shipping company Abu Talal, had been due to dock on November 20 with 507 tonnes of steel.

Seven crew members were onboard the ship, including three Somalis, two Yemenis and two Panamanians.
