Somali gunmen release kidnapped UN workers

Mogadishu: Somali gunmen released two United Nations workers hours after kidnapping them on Saturday in the Bakool region of south central Somalia.

"The Danish and the Swedish workers were released without ransom and they are safe waiting for a flight to Nairobi," said Mohamed Nur Salad, a UN security and safety worker.

Witnesses said heavily armed men had attacked the two in Hudor town.

One is Danish and the other is Swedish. Both men were risk education project officers for Mine Action, a UN official said.

A Somali man working as a translator for the International Medical Corps was also abducted, but it was not clear if he was also released.
