Palestinian groups begin ceasefire talks

Cairo: Members of Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad have started talks about a possible ceasefire with Israel.

Egypt is hoping to bring an end to rocket attacks from Gaza, but it is though the Palestinian groups will want Israel to put a halt to all attacks on Gaza and the blockade.

US State Department official David Welch will also be helping the mediation effort.

Hamas officials have said the talks were attended by one their senior leaders, Mahmoud Al Zahhar.
