Gaza: Israeli soldiers moved into northern Gaza on Monday morning, however officials have denied that this is the start of an all out offensive.
More than 100 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in the past five days, despite international calls for restraint.
Israel says the attacks are aimed at stopping Palestinians from firing rockets across the border.
Five Hamas militants were killed on Monday morning, while the Israelis staged as many as nine air strikes on Gaza.
Israel's Defence Minister Ehud Barak said the overnight incursion was not an invasion, but maintained that such action was possible.
"We will use force to change the situation," he said.
So far 109 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Wednesday, with officials claiming that roughly half of the dead were civilians.
