Baghdad: The Prime Minister of Iraq, Nuri al-Maliki, flew to London for follow up medical checks on Sunday, after his heart was inserted with a catheter two months ago, an Iraqi government official said.

The spokesman added that the Prime Minister was in good health and was visiting his doctor for routine health check-ups.

"There is nothing wrong with him or his heart. He was asked by the doctor to come back within a period not less than six weeks, and that is why he is going," added the spokesman.

Maliki, who is in his late 50s, flew to London on Dec. 29 for medical tests. An official in his office at the time said the prime minister had been suffering from mild exhaustion.
